This arrangement makes me happy every time I walk into the kitchen. Just a simple mix of white spider mums and a bouquet filler mix from Whole Foods. So simple, but it looks totally professional, no?

I can't take credit for this pretty arrangement. A dear dear friend brought this lovely pink bundle over when she came to meet our sweet baby for the first time. She's so thoughtful! Peonies are my favorite, they have such a short season so I'm trying to enjoy having a house full of em while I can.

Sometimes you just need to spice it up a bit, so this mix of roses and pincushion proteas seemed like a good way to do just that. Clearly, it's wild around here.

This arrangement looks pretty normal, just a simple bunch of white hydrangeas -- but it's so much more than that.

The hubs is not one for romantic gestures. He's not a surprise you on a tuesday with a bunch of roses because they reminded him of you kind of guy. In a good year, I'll get flowers from him maybe once on Valentine's Day. The hubs isn't a flowery words and love letters kind of guy either. He's much more of an actions speak louder kind of guy. But not big romantic gestures and actions. He's the kind of guy who shows love by getting up everyday and working his butt of for his family, through loyalty, through jokes and cuddles, through foot rubs, and by doing the dishes when I'm too tired to. You know those million little everyday-things that remind you that love isn't the fireworks of infatuation, it's the everyday business of working hard to build a life with someone. It's showing up and being there.

So when the hubs came home early from work on my birthday to surprise me with a bunch of white hydrangeas because he knows I love them, it was pretty special.

Easter 2014 has come and gone, but these babies are still going strong on our kitchen table. Nothing says spring time like a lovely mix of yellow and purple roses - if you ask me at least.

Sometimes a little unruliness is nice - I'm loving this perfectly imperfect ranunculus arrangement. It's just the thing to spruce up the coffee table.

You know I love me a gladiolus arrangement - nothing new there. What is new is this color pallet. I'm loving vibrant shades of fuchsia and orange sherbet right now. Something about the combo feels fresh for spring.

It's hard to make flowers masculine, but this was my attempt to do just that. Bells of Ireland mixed with some sculptural twigs. The lines are a little harder, the color pallet is less feminine - it might not scream masculinity, but then does any bouquet ever scream masculinity? At least it's St. Patrick's Day appropriate.

I am a self proclaimed girly girl. Tutus, glitter, pink, bows, I'm all about it - but I usually try to dial it back a bit as far as our home is concerned for the hubs' sake. But ... sometimes I can't help myself. Sometimes a girl just need a generous bouquet of pale pink and cream roses. I mean, right?

(PS: these are the same flowers from my maternity shoot.)

How pretty is this arrangement? Sadly, I cannot take credit for this one. This is the pretty bouquet the hubs had sent to my office on Valentine's Day. He doesn't send me flowers very often, but we he does - he nails it.

Tuesday's Tips and Tricks

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

It's no secret that I love a hydrangea, a controversial statement I know. But I do not love a droopy hydrangea, especially if they start to droop within a day of being purchased. Champagne problems, yes, but still annoying. However, all is not lost, you have options.

Well you have one option, but it's a good one. Soak the hydrangeas in ice water (either in a large pot or in the sink) for several hours or overnight if you can. The water will refresh the blooms and perk up your flowers. So simple!

A little bit of indoor sunshine to complement all the unexpected sun we've gotten this January (as pretty as it is, my fingers are crossed for a little rain -- apologies to those of you caught in the polar vortex).

Things continue to get seasonal around here. I'm loving this festive mix of ivory roses, mini-sunflowers, and rose hips. Just festive enough without slapping you in the face with it.

I'm going through a bit of a frilly flower phase, who knows why. All I'm certain of is that when I saw these ruffled tulips, I knew they had to be mine.

This sweet little number is a pretty-as-pie mix of pink tipped roses, hydrangeas, and greenery. It has "baby shower" written all over it if you ask me. ;-)

It's starting to look a little seasonal around here! I love this time of year - the start of autumn, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years. The air get cooler and then it's a fast slide through my favorite time of year and into the next. So it goes without saying that I also get pretty excited about seasonal decorating. I wish I had the budget, and the storage space, to really go all out - someday, but for now I'm happy with incorporating a few seasonal touches here and there. Some pumpkins (and a little hidden sugar skull) in the living room, a DIY gold skull on the coffee table, and a few fall flowers in the kitchen.

How are you welcoming the season?

Understated is nice, I like understated. But sometimes you just need something over the top. Exactly like these gladiolus. This is a notice me bouquet.

Yellow roses have come to symbolize friendship, joy, and domestic familiarity. Maybe not the sexiest bouquet to receive from yo lover, but ... purchased for ones self and placed on the kitchen table - seems about right.

I do love a lilly. This bouquet is generous and unapologetic. Anything but understated: they add an elegant shock of vibrancy and fill a room with a heady fragrance. Yep ... i love.
